Additional information:
300 yards of left bank lower Wye fishing, located in the village of Lydbrook, between Ross on Wye and Monmouth. The section is ideal for a few hours salmon fly fishing for one or two rods or day’s coarse fishing for one to three anglers. This can be excellent grilse water and salmon to 20lbs have been caught on fly in recent years.
Below the island the pace quickens into a long run known as the Wyebank run followed by the Wyebank crib pool which can be excellent for specimen chub, then the Wharf pool which is followed by the Lower crib pool, below which is the Boat rock and a short shallow rapid from an ancient weir and immediately below the shallows the Bottom pool, where large numbers of barbel congregate and large catches can be had. The Bottom pool will hold salmon despite canoes and all the other pools, runs and lies are maintained to encourage salmon to rest. Superb barbel catches can be had trotting the Wyebank run.
Access to the river and parking is excellent, less than 100m from parking to the river, and a well maintained river bank. The flow is quite fast for this part of the Wye so the barbel and chub fishing is particularly excellent for coarse anglers, all the usual Wye fish species are present, however. Combined with Courtfield, this is a superb location for larger parties of 7 – 9 to fish together, with excellent local facilities for good food, pubs and WCs within walking distance. There are also several places to stay within the immediate environs of the fisheries.
A syndicate of game rods fish the beat between 3rd March and 15th June. Exclusivity therefore cannot be guaranteed, so please be aware that there may be more than two salmon rods fishing during this period. The rods are expected to fish in a sportsmanlike manner and to give 100 yards between each of them when fly-fishing.
Half price evening tickets for Salmon rods can be purchased after 1pm on the day of fishing. Fishing is allowed from 5pm.
Coarse Fishing from 16th June until 14th March, Winter or evening fishing is best as canoes during the summer can disturb the watercourse
