Additional information.

Set in impressive scenery framed by the Sugar Loaf and Blorenge mountains, Glan-y-Cafn is two thirds of a mile of mostly double bank Usk fishing just upstream of Abergavenny. The beat offers good salmon fishing prospects for one angler although medium/high water levels are required for the best opportunities. A 160 m walkway runs alongside one of these pools just downstream from the parking area, the pool after which the beat is named. Some of this walkway is now in a state of disrepair so you are asked to take care when using it. In low water conditions, it may be easier to wade this section.

The beat is probably better known for its trout fishing, though. The streamy water at the top of the beat and around the islands will suit daytime trout fishing, especially during spring olive hatches, while the extensive glide that forms the lower half of the beat fishes particularly well in spring or on summer evenings, or whenever there is a hatch of fly.

The riverbed is mostly gravel and the beat is good for those requiring easier fishing access. Please note that there is a public footpath on the opposite bank for much of the fishery. Parking is less than 50m from the river.

Half price evening tickets can be purchased after 1pm on the day of fishing. Fishing is allowed from 5pm.

Block booking is available on this beat.
